4th West has one Community Coordinator (CC) and three Residential Life Assistants (RLAs) living on hall to support our residents during their time at NCSSM. Get to know a little bit about us here!
I'm technically a Triangle native, being born in Raleigh, but my family moved to Greensboro when I was a few months old. I graduated from Greensboro Day School and then Davidson College, where I majored in anthropology, while taking way too many biology and Spanish courses. One of the highlights of my educational journey was attending The Outdoor Academy, a semester school for high school sophomores in Pisgah Forest, NC.
While at Davidson, I worked in the outdoor program, as a work study employee, trip leader, and even served as President of the organization. I've led all kinds of trips across the Southeast: backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, whitewater canoeing on the French Broad, caving in Blacksburg (VA) and Bluff City (TN), sailing in the Florida Everglades, and rock climbing and whitewater rafting in the New River Gorge (WV).
Since starting at NCSSM in August 2008, I've had so many great opportunities:
working as the Fourth West CC for my first eight years here: all the fun hall meetings, silly and thoughtful programs, many hikes and camping trips, 'you had to be there' moments on hall, so many great RLA teams, helping students discover all of the awesome things that Durham has to offer
being part of the initial Online Advisory Committee and orientation team for the very first year of NCSSM Online
leading several J-Term trips: environmental education and sustainable agriculture in Panama, following in Ernest Hemingway's footsteps in Key West, Spanish immersion and cultural exchange in Monteverde, and a couple of additional tours of Costa Rica, visiting all of the different biomes and provinces
managing the Campus Service program: helping students give back to the NCSSM community, creating connection points between students and employees, having a lot of fun with our Student Activities Board (SAB) students as we prep for and clean up after campus-wide events
sponsoring several clubs: Black Student Union, Spectrum, and the Outdoor Club
serving as the Student Activities Coordinator: providing campus-wide programming; listening to student feedback to make events that they're super excited about and cherish from their time at NCSSM; figuring out how to make all sorts of ridiculous props like 8' tall dandelions, a giant three-headed dog, or suspending a parachute inside the gym to make a circus tent
hiring, training, and working with so many great CCs over the years!
Hey guys, I'm Joshua Taylor and I'll be one of your RLAs this year. I'm from Elizabeth City and I like to listen to music, spend time outside, and read. I'm excited to meet everyone on hall so don't hesitate to reach out.
My name is Manny Price, and I am a rising senior from Charlotte, and will be one of your RLA’s for the 2025/2026 school year. You will find me on the soccer field, in the music suite, or somewhere on Ninth Street, most likely Alpaca. I am also involved in SG as a Junior/Senior Senator, and a leader of the NCSSM Catholic Club. Something cool is I love to travel and have been to 49/50 US states. Let me know if you need anything, you will always see me around so don’t hesitate to reach out. Thanks!
Hi, my name is Tate Tucker from Chocowinity, Beaufort County. I wrestle and play baseball and in my free time I like fishing, weightlifting, and watching sports. I’m excited to make 4W the best it can be!
